Installing A Monitor

-Installing a monitor isn't brain surgery. The hardest part of this is just installing a driver at most. If you are running windows you are in good shape. Windows will recognize the monitor especially if it is Plug and Play. Most times windows will install its own driver for the monitor with or without your permission.

-Here is some typical steps when installing a monitor.

1. Turn System Off.
2. First off remove the old monitor.
3. Unplug monitor from wall or power source.
4. Unplug any built in features such as speakers, microphones and so on.
5. Unplug monitor from computer itself. This is the port for the Video Card. Located on back of computer case.
6. Remove monitor and place new one in its spot.
7. Plug monitor into video card
8. Plug power cord in.
9. Restart System
10. Windows should recognize your new monitor and may ask for a driver for it. If not don't worry.
11. If and when it ask for a driver you can attempt to load one for it. In Windows 98 this can be a stubborn task. Most of the time the windows drivers are better than what the manufacturer came with
12. To load the driver follow installation instructions of the monitor manufacturer or go to control panel.
13. To access control panel go to: start button, control panel, add hardware. Now choose for windows to detect it.
14. If not detecting try going to "system" located in control panel. Choose devices. Choose monitors. Choose you monitor in list and double click. Choose to update driver. Choose driver from manufacturers diskette.

-If you still see you old monitor installed on the system along with the new one. Simply highlight it in devices under "system" and choose remove. Upon reboot you will have a clean slate.

-Somewhere along the way you should have this bad boy installed. Now if that is okay you want to set Video card up for the monitor.

-Now in windows anywhere on the desktop click the right mouse button one time. You will have a drop down menu pop up and choose "Properties". You will see a new box with tabs on the top choose "settings". This is your video settings. Choose the best resolution and color for your video card and monitor.
