Windows Tips/Win98/Displaying All Your File Types

Displaying All Your File TypesFile extensions are those 3 character identifiers that follow the "period" in a file name. The extension helps the operating system associate a particular file type with a specific application, so clicking on a file with a specific extension launches that application. By default, Windows 95 is set up to hide all your file extensions, and completely hide all the icons for files with extensions such as .BAT, .DLL, .COM.To see all the files and their extensions:1 - Open any Windows Explorer window2 - Select Options from the View menu3 - Select the View tab4 - Make sure the "Show All Files" radio button is highlighted

5 - Uncheck the "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for the file types that are registered" check box.
